About

My name is Rolando Pera. I embarked on a transformative journey when I moved to the United States in 1995, a few years after graduating from high school in Cuba. As a top student throughout my academic career in Cuba, I was well aware of the challenges and differences that awaited me in the U.S. educational system. With Spanish as my native language, I recognized the necessity of mastering English to further my education and career prospects. I was determined to overcome these challenges to pursue my dreams, despite the daunting task ahead.
Provisionally, I took on various jobs outside my desired field of Information Technology (IT), which underscored the value of higher education in achieving professional goals. My passion for IT led me to self-study computer graphics, all while working in the mailroom of an insurance company. This experience only fueled my desire for formal education, prompting me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in IT.
I discovered Barry University’s Adult and Continuing Education program, designed for working adults like myself. The flexibility of this program allowed me to continue my education while managing a small business. With a wealth of experience in computer repairs, networking, programming, and computer graphics, coupled with my bachelor’s degree, I felt well-prepared to enter the job market.
Looking ahead, I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at Barry University to serve businesses and organizations within my community. The personal and academic growth I experienced in college has not only made me a better individual but has also equipped me with the tools to approach future challenges with greater efficiency. This journey has enriched my life both spiritually and academically, leaving me with a profound sense of fulfillment and readiness to tackle the professional world.
